Comparison between IBM HCI Projects with Other Competitors
Human Computer Interface (HCI) is basically referred to as the planning and studying of the interaction between computers and individuals (users). It is commonly regarded as the intersection of computer science, behavioral sciences, design and several other fields of study. In a technology industry, the only constant element is change. Because of this reason, one strategy that the organizations in the technology industry should essentially pursue is the innovation strategy. Only through continuous and rapid innovation, an organization can remain successful and competitive in the technology industry.
The primary strategic measures employed by IBM are cost leadership, differentiation or customer oriented strategy. IBM either believes in striving to be the low cost leader in the market by minimizing its costs and having a large profit margin, from which it could then offer products at a low cost as compared to its competitors. Another way by which IBM succeeds in remaining competitive in the market is by differentiating its products in a way that cannot be replicated or surpassed by its competitors. This is again done by continuous innovation along with research and development (Anonymous, 2013).
Lastly, the strategy employed by IBM is pursuing a customer focused strategy. This entails having an outside in approach throughout the organization. By watching and getting to know what is valued by the customers or how the demands of the customers are changing, IBM successfully includes these needs and changing demands in its products. This would enable it to be innovative and differentiating by addressing the demands of the customers in a prompt manner.
The three major competitors that seem to be engaged in the HCI projects include; Microsoft Inc., Accenture, and Intel. The advancements in the environment awareness are being facilitated by the computing platforms displaying enhanced performance, counting in the 3G Intel core processor family. The engineers at Intel have established enhanced process technology and the central processing units which may keep up a real time connection with various communication interfaces and may impart an escalated level of experience to the users. However, there are a number of hardware issues faced by Intel, counting in the way to attend towards huge sets of and further miniaturize sensors.
At Microsoft Research, the research regarding HCI serves a significant role across various teams. They are focused at the enhancing the means for the users to ...
