Compare & Contrast Book with Movie

Introduction

It is true that different people have different choices. While some people may prefer reading novels, others favor watching movies. In my opinion, movies are the perfect way to entertain oneself when spending leisure time. They promise a relaxing escape from the busy and mundane routine that people follow on a daily basis. When comparing movies with books, it is important to observe that movies have a major advantage over the other since they do not demand that a person dedicate days or even weeks in order to go through it completely (Boucher, 2013). This may be one of the reasons why most of the movies being made today are adaptations of popular novels. This not only allows the author to expand his followership but also makes the story easier to understand for a wider audience. Another obvious advantages that movies have over books is that they promise a more thrilling, riveting, engaging and cinematic experience. This is certainly the case with two novels, 'Harry Potter 2' and 'Harry Potter - The Deathly Hallows Part 2', with their respective movie adaptations in order to determine which of the two offers a better overall experience.

Thesis Statement

The movie adaptations of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2' certainly present a higher entertainment quotient compared to the novels because they promise a more cinematic, exhilarating, riveting, and engaging experience to the audience while also promising greater viewership.

However, when comparing the books with their movie adaptations, it can be said that the two types of works are quite different despite the fact that they are based on the same themes and plot. The Harry Potter books certainly show a greater commitment to the reader because they are more detailed and descriptive in content. On the other hand, the movies are severely abridged versions of the books as they only borrow and present the most important parts while leaving out the unnecessary details.

An argument can certainly be made here that books present a clearer and more detailed picture to the reader allowing them to visualize every character and plot development in detail. For example, the character descriptions, the events, and several other things are presented in the finest detail and this allows the reader to form a complete picture of everything in his mind - Harry is described as a skinny boy with a thin face, straight jet-black hair, knobby knees and piercing bright-green eyes (Katey, 2010). However, this argument can easily be refuted since movies present a more detailed picture to the audience. For example, in the movie, the audience ...
