Introduction

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the two short stories such as “Internet Baby” and “The Custodian”. The main objectives of this paper are to compare and contrast these two stories and their themes.

Thesis Statement

“Internet baby” is a short stories which relates to be more organized and language used are more lyrical as compare to “The Custodian” which language is more idiomatic and does not hold a concept of short story.

Discussion

Story A- The Custodian

A short story named as “The Custodian” starts with the explanation of the main themes of the story and characters and the job which defines. The story is full of the interesting fact which catches the mood of the reader at several points. The story is the mixture of the various themes due to which the patient was able to sing the song and how he made fun of her. One of the interesting things of the Custodian is its punch line that suggests the joke on him, which is more like a spiritual action that changes him. The narrative curve, therefore, distinguishes the Hinshaw's short story from both Forche prose poems which is the distant feature from a regular short story.

After analyzing the prose poem of the Forche is now believe that difference between prose poem and verse poem is the poem in verse which has more musicality and has little or nothing rhymes while the prose poem is the opposite. My analysis shows that the language is used in a different manner in Forche which is an end in itself. While on the other hand, Hinshaw measn to an end. The narrative style also differs significantly in both the poems. In the context, of the poem, the poet sketches such a picture in which characters build and the reader can visualize a person related to the context of the poem. The structure and style of the poem is outstanding (Hinshaw, 1996). The Custodian has a unique epiphany and I consider that it is the main element that separates the Hinshaw's short story from the Forche's prose poem and finally from any other short story (Forché, 1984).

The structure is different in the Forche's work which moves through the repetition and juxtaposition. While on the other hand, Hinshaw has adopted a different style of classic story from which I believe that it moves from the middle of an action to the revelation or epiphany for the main character. Furthermore, we can say that the arguments about the writing style of both authors may not justify the characterization of prose poems and short stories in general.

Custodian is a kind of short story which has the features such as:

Narrator: It is who relates the facts and shows the reader. The narrator may take different views and this choice sets the tone of the narrative.

Characters: are those who carry out the facts related by the narrator. The reader knows them through their actions, thoughts and descriptions which the narrator makes of ...
