Wal-Mart is a US based company that came into being by Sam Walton in the year 1962. The incorporation of Wal-Mart took place on 31st October, 1969 and it listed its shares in the stock market, New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), in the year 1972. Wal-Mart is an international chain of retail stores running chains of a huge warehouse stores and departmental stores. Wal-Mart is the 2nd largest public corporation in the world. As per the list of Fortune Global 500 of the current year, Wal-Mart is the world's largest private sector employer with more than two million employees. Wal-Mart is also the world's largest retailer. The family of the founder of Wal-Mart, Walton, controls the family business (Bert, 2011). Walton family has the ownership of 48 percent of the company's shares. Wal-Mart is also one of the most valuable organizations of the world. The headquarter of the company is in Bentonville, Arkansas. It is the biggest retailer of grocery in the U.S. In the year 2009, Wal-Mart made 51% of its sales in the United States from business of grocery and total sales volume was US$258 billion.
