Drug Selling and Trafficking

Participation, involvement or contribution in dealing illegal substance of any kind in any way, is known as drug dealing. According to the researches, participation of youth in the dealing and distribution of drugs has seen a tremendous increase in the last decades. It is an act which attracts and correlates with other deliriously serious problems such as illegal substance use, various forms of delinquency and violence (Vaughn et al, 2011).

Utilization, usage, distribution and trafficking of illegal drugs posit seriously hazardous societal impacts, for violence is one of the major correlates of illegal drug dealing, selling and trafficking. From violence, arise other serious crimes including killing, robbery, and other forms of threats to the society and the people. Governmental and non-governmental agencies alike strive and work for the eradication of drug selling and dealing because this crime does not act alone, it brings with it, several adversaries that are a serious menace and if immense peril to the public.

Mexico, being a few hours away from many large cities of United States proves to one of the hubs of drug trafficking. People of Mexican America who live near the border have more direct contact with the sources and distributors of primary illegal drugs other than the people who have to traffic the drugs through many middlemen and several layers of illegal workers (Valdez & Sifaneck 2004).

Several law enforcement agencies establish initiatives that work towards the abolition of this menace. Realizing and grasping the vital impact and delirious consequences of the drug dealing and trafficking, in December 2006, president of Mexico Calderon attempted to make a strategy to combat the drug trafficking organization (DOTs). In cooperation wand assistance with the US president, government of Mexico launched the Merida Initiative. It is a counterdrug and anticrime aid that began in 2008 (Seelke et al, 2010).

The Merida imitative proves to be a successful initiative in wiping out the cause and the entrance of such activities in US. This initiative, signed by the Mexican president, provides support to the law enforcement agencies in supporting the activities in checking and examining the aircrafts and boats entering or exiting the shore.
