Community Health Promotion Program against Sexually Transmitted Infections
Community Health Promotion Program against Sexually Transmitted Infections
Introduction
Sexually transmitted disease in many developed countries is rising day by day and has become a major cause of public health concern. It has not only affected the health of people but also has become a cause of mortality and morbidity. Chlamydia, Aids/HIV, Gonorrhea, and syphilis are among these sexual transmitted infections that are hard to detect at the initial phase and its diagnosis test and treatment is very expensive.
This is why treatment for sexual transmitted infections has become a source of financial burden for patients suffering from it. Different health promotion programs have been initiated at health care sector in US to reduce the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections. However little is known about Chlamydia. This is why the health promotion program is designed specifically to target people suffering from this infection and control and protect young people against it.
Health promotion program is designed that is based on international and multifaceted approaches to control STIs like Chlamydia. Since Chlamydia is most common amongst younger generation between the ages of 15 to 25, this infection is left untreated due to inadequate awareness and information among this particular age group. Using the program in light of two important approaches this particular high risk group will be targeted so that the prevalence of such infections can be reduced through proper guidance and support of health care system, government and the community itself.
Discussion
Chlamydia
Chlamydia is one of the sexually transmitted infections that have been observed to increase rapidly among younger people between the ages of 16 to 25. There is little or no awareness about the specified infection and its adverse consequences on the health in young people. This particular age group is affected by this infection the most due to unprotected sex or different sex partners. In England alone, more than 150,000 people were detected with the diseases in 2010, amongst which most of the infected people were below the age of 24 (Gray et.al. 2012).
Since the infection is undetectable, people hardly notice its symptoms at the initial phase let until it changes into some form of genital infection both in men and women. Therefore, it is important that awareness about Chlamydia should be spread amongst people, especially the younger generation and how people can protect them against it. Health promotion programs are designed to provide health care support and spread awareness amongst people to adopt changes that would lead to healthy life style. These health promotion programs help in meeting the needs and requirement of people and improve the health and wellbeing of the community (Gray et.al. 2012).
Need For Health Promotion Program For Chlamydia
As stated earlier the health promotion program for Chlamydia is important for it provides strategies and interventions that could help in spreading awareness and information related to the disease. Chlamydia is said to be the most common sexual bacterial infection that has affected the health of many especially women, as it is undetected ...
