Community Health Nursing

Introduction A Community Health Care Nurse (CHN) carries out persistent and wide-ranging practices that are rehabilitative, curative and preventive in nature. The values and viewpoints of health care are footed on the faith that care being provided to an individual, a family unit or group of individuals advocates and augments the health care of the populace all together. A community nurse works for the community in general but a CHN works with particular group of people to promote health. The role of CHN is to work with honesty of purpose towards a specified goal towards promoting healthcare in accordance with the needs and requirements of that particular community.

The document reports as to why I, as a community health care nurse, must work with this community to promote health and well-being. The content is planned to assist understanding of some noteworthy cultural considerations to follow and to identify several key strategies, skills and principles for successfully working with the purpose of providing effective healthcare facilities to population.

Discussion

During the day to day nursing practice with this community I have figured out that this community is in serious need of health promotion and hence I want to actively participate in the health promotion activities, particularly in the food bank development, which is much needed facility this community requires.

There exist a number of healthcare issues I explored during my nursing practice. These issues are critical to the health and well being of the natives around and hence must be addressed and resolved promptly. Poverty and scarcity of food resulting from it serves as the most distressing factor. The unemployment rate is above 20% and many parents express concern about the adequacy of the diet that they are able to provide, and say that the funding they receive from Social Services is insufficient to meet their families basic food needs. The largest urban centre where large discount food stores are available is a four hour drive away. Most families in the district do their grocery shopping at the local general stores, where prices are higher. Many of these families have large debts. The owners of these stores are unable to extend the credit line of many of their customers much further, although they are sympathetic to the overall situation. The general tone within the district towards the employment and economic situation is pessimistic, although many parents do comment during clinic and home visits that they are still waiting for things to turn around.

Furthermore, due to all the scenarios stated above people are during routine infant and preschool immunization clinics and home visits I have noted signs of fatigue, anemia, and susceptibility to respiratory infections in family members of all ages. Smoking out of depression is also common in families.

To turn the tides in a positive manner a group of local business men and farmers have decided to install a food bank. They don't have any skills for running a food bank like this but because they want to genuinely fix the food ...
