Designing end to end system can surely defines the visibility constraints by keeping an overall cost of a system very low. This statement is correct if from the very start best communication as well as network system have been adopted. In year 2006, as per the investigation of FBI, theft cost the US economy was highlighted between $16 and $29 billion per annum. Whereas, according to another research, the indirect costs as achieved from the investigations and insurance payments that is related to the cargo theft can be 3 to 6 times higher the direct losses that are somehow faced by the cargo based thefts. Thefts of cargo directly or indirectly affect the receivers, shippers as well as originators. As a matter of fact, originators as well as receivers require a proper and a reliable supply chain in order to deliver the goods and products in a proper time and effective manner. Along with this, shippers keep the liability as well as insurance costs that are directly related to the shipments and this cost is proportional to the direct rate of the theft occurred. Therefore, receivers are somehow affected directly or indirectly by the scheduling and stocks related issues which are somehow due to cargo theft.

When shipping industry is facing high rate of cargo theft, exports from Asia to USA have also increased that results in key outcomes at the ports of the USA coast. Due to this reason, companies thus tried to offload the cargo directly onto the trains.

Motivation

According to Nocedar, in order to reduce or to negate any issues as mentioned above, one of the main as well as important element is to have a sense of visibility into the cargo and freight movement, especially in freight where the modes and carriers keeps on changing. For the best possible cargo and monitoring based system, visibility is the best possible method. In order to make it possible, real time integration should be with all the sensor based data that is interrelated with the broker, importer, shipper, carrier, and exporter and for the forwarder information. Despite this, various complicated systems are also being used and applied in the container transport chain supply system.

In order to have a better as well as sound visibility in the cargo trains, shipments, rail-cars as well as in containers, a well equipped and a sensor based devices should be used in order to improve the communication system. If somehow sensor is damaged, a message is then generated that is further communicated to the reader with the help of a network and then it is forwarded to the train personnel in the form of an alarm message.
