Introduction

The rules are unwritten laws, which basically dictate what is right to do, and that is unacceptable. Some rules vary from person to person, but other norms are collective in society and different cultural traditions. It is important to know, because when one is aware of its various rules, they can adapt their communication to achieve the desired result.

Introduction of a culture has three main aspects - language, physical, and psychological. (Lambert and Sharma 2000) the language of measurement is used to communicate with other people who have similar beliefs and values as we do. The physical dimension refers to the environment and cultural activities of people. Knowledge, our beliefs and our mental activity is a psychological aspect. Since all these aspects are interrelated, it is important to understand the differences between people in order to communicate effectively. Before we understand others, we must understand our own size, and therefore we, as we are (Seelow 2008). If we allow this to happen, perhaps we can broaden our minds to try to understand how different layers interact and respond to things. Let's take a look at Asian culture.

There are many Asian Americans in the world today, who traveled to the mainland in search of a better life, because the U.S. has more opportunities. For those who live in Asia, there is often a culture shock, because the rules in the states, which differ from those in Asia (Seelow 2008). When one is able to assimilate with the rules for Americans, they can feel better sense of belonging, but as a rule, the opposite is true when they interact with their families. Many times, Asian Americans may feel like a contradiction, since different cultural values between Americans and Asian cultures. For example, many second and third generation Filipinos search for identity, as well as those people born in the states that make them American, but some Americans do not consider them such, or to treat them as equals. At other times, they may not consider themselves as Filipinos, either because they might not know about language, history and culture (Fuller; O'Connor and Rawlinson 2003). For those who are in the United States, the concept of dating can be a problem. Typically, it is expected within one to marry someone within their own race, but depending on their location, can not find someone from their culture to this day. This could open the door for the attitude towards other cultures that may not like the family, but for the absorbed man, this is rarely a big deal. Other differences in culture can also be a person feeling less than because of social class, appearance, and where the individual lives, especially in childhood.
