Color Psychology

Introduction

Color psychology is concerned about determining the impact of colors on individuals, their mood, emotions and behavior, in other words it deals with analyzing the effect of color on personality of an individual. Often people might feel anxious in yellow room, on the other hand they might feel relaxed and calm in a blue room, and thus psychologists have determined that color creates an impact on the feelings of individuals. It does not affect moods and personality of individuals simultaneously some colors may also result in increase in blood pressure or an increase in metabolism (Ghimire, 2009). Feelings that are influenced by color might be personal depending on experience and culture that the individual belongs to. For instance in most of the Western white color is considered to be as a sign for purity and innocence whereas in many of the Eastern it is denoted as a color for mourning (www.pantone.com).

Psychologists have used color therapy as a force to influence individual's behavior. they tend to use color therapy to heal, the therapy used is termed as chromotherapy which can also be referred to as colorolgy. Yellow considered being a color which can be used for stimulating and for blood purification. Orange color was used by therapists for healing the lungs and in order to increase the energy level.
