In Australia, is Colonisation Only Relevant to Aboriginal People?

Discuss and Explain Your Response to This Question

Introduction

LaRocque defined colonization as “some form of invasion, dispossession and subjugation... geographical intrusion in the form of agricultural, urban or industrial encroachments.” (www3.nfb.ca). LaRocque discussed this concept of colonization with aboriginal perspectives. This provides better understanding for the relevance of colonization to aboriginal people. The main concern associated with colonization is that, it affects inhabitants and owners of the land (australia.gov.au). These effects always results in long term and affect many generations. British colonization has its impact on various countries and Australia was one of those countries, which suffered worst consequences of British Colonization. This colonization affected population, culture, life, and a number of other aspects associated with the Australians. Aboriginal people migrated from different other parts as refugee and since then they inhabited Australia. The major affect of British colonization of Australia, was on the Australian Aboriginal Population after the Australian colonization in eighteenth century (Anonymous, 2001, p.26).

Aboriginal Population have their own ways of living and interaction with the environment. These people live in tribes and they were nomadic and therefore, they had mobile lifestyle and kept moving from one place to another in search of food and water. These Aboriginal people were hunters and they used to have free life in these lands. As compare to other native people, British colonization mostly affected these aboriginal people. Later, these people kept organizing their own colonies and communities and still these people have maintained their own separate identity. This provides that there are two perspectives associated with the relevance of colonization to the Aboriginal people. One is due to the impact of British colonization on these aboriginal people and another reason was their attempt to maintain their separate identity. This is the reason that even after the end of British colonization these people continued with their separate identity based on different social, cultural and traditional beliefs in different Aboriginal and Indigenous colonies.

Thesis Statement

In Australia, colonisation is only relevant to Aboriginal people because, these Aboriginal people were affected by colonization and they have always tried to maintain their separate identity.

Discussion

History reveals that British colonization of Australia serves as the solution for various problems, which British government was facing in eighteenth century due to increase in population and worst economic situation (Anonymous, 2001, p.26). This resulted as increase in crime rate and created a major concern for the British government to accommodate all these people in jail or to provide food for them. Land was also a major concern and Australia served as the solution to all these problems. It was the time when there were various British colonies all over the world and British government was already investing on the maintenance of these colonies. Australia was the best opportunity for Britain to resolve the problems of land, prisoners and population ...
