Background study:
The project is based on a private college based in London, where 100 percent of the students recruited from overseas. Approximately, 80 percent of them is from South East Asia. The college offers various programs in various areas such as business, computing, accounting and health and social care in accordance with the UK awarding body (Bach, Deborah, Blanchard, Jessica, 2005).
College admission committee uses the set criteria to recruit student from various background in compliance with the awarding body set criteria in the example of tourism and hospitality course awarding body sets minimum requirement for entry to the course is for example;
Level 4: professional certificates in tourism and hospitality management student should have minimum 4.4 IELTS band score and same times at least two years work experience in the relevant sector and minimum GCE O' level pass, in order to enter level 5 in tourism and hospitality and management. The requirement is higher to if more matured student wants to get entry to a higher level of this course. The work experience in those criteria is set like 5 years, and 7 years from level 5 to level 6 where IELTS band score is required for 5.5 and 6.5. Some colleges give flexibility in this regard, if they find a student with high grade achieved in their past qualifications (Bach, Deborah, Blanchard, Jessica, 2005).
The college maintains strict procedure for completion of this process where many students do not get the chance to get admission to this college to starts their course. The students mostly come from low socioeconomic background where some cases student fail to complete their course for incapacity of fees paying. It is a whole scenario of most privately funded college who are recruits student from the developing and third world countries.
This report aim to be discovered how the student recruitment system take place and what is the impact later on in their learning and achievement process. It is aimed towards final examination that directly conducted by awarding body. College academic board run two semesters for each year of course and follows two high-stake examinations in the period of June and December. The examinations are conducted directly by awarding bodies. The final assessment content with the assignment and unseen written examination depends on the level and modules from awarding bodies. Each semester designed 13-14 weeks of lectures and seminar in combination for each module where minimum 3 modules to take by the student in each semester.
