Introduction

In the contemporary global social environment the cognitive oriented dilemmas are now considered highly significant and relevant. In the traditional perspective the emotion or psychologically oriented issues were not provided the adequate attention by the health care fraternity, and these issues were not considered as relevant medical issues. However with the advent of modern techniques and findings in the health care industry, the cognitive dilemmas are now treated as substantial medical concerns. It is due to this factor that several researches have been conducted to find the solutions to the various and diverse psychological disorder that exist in the contemporary society (Barlow et Al, 2000). The Cognitive Behavioral theory is a type of technique which is widely used by various practitioners to resolve psychological issues among the relevant patients.

The psychological disorders unlike the physical dilemmas have a long term impact on the life of the individual, and can also impact the physical attributes as well. Modern research has highlighted that the prolonged psychological stress can cause the individual to develop serious long term dilemmas, and also serious cases of physical dilemmas. Considering the impact and the severity of psychological disorders in the lives of the patients, it is imperative that these issues are resolved on an early basis. If the persist to exits in the life of an individual, the consequences may become very sever and the entire life of the person might be adversely impacted. The Cognitive behavioral therapy helps the health care professionals alleviate the psychological issues such as anger, depression and anxiety, from the relevant patients; and help them lead a normal lifestyle. The primary focus of the therapy is to help reduce the maladaptive instances form the lives of the individuals, and help them construct a positive frame of mind, regarding the source of their psychological dilemmas.

Cognitive Behavioral Theory: Application & Origin

CBT is identified as an effective therapy for various psychologically oriented disorders such as mood related dilemmas, drug/substance abuse, severe eating disorders, unhealthy fixations, anger issues and psychotic disorders. The primary objective of the theory is to allow the patient with an opportunity to confront his sources of psychological stress, and be able to resolve them in a constructive manner. The maladaptive tendencies in an individual allow him to ignore certain tasks or activities or react in a certain manner to avoid the feeling of emotional/psychological deficiency (Kroenke & Swindle, 2000). In these situations people react in a non constructive manner to avoid confronting certain events or repressed feelings, and this situation can have a severe impact on their daily lives.

Cognitive behavioral therapy was originally formulated by the amalgamation of the various behavior oriented theories, with the relevant cognitive psychology research. Researchers such as Donald Meichennbaum pioneered this initial research in the field, which allowed the development of the formal entity of the cognitive behavioral therapy.
