Cloning

Abstract

Cloning is defined as the production of genetically identical organism with similar properties and structure. It has been a controversial act backed by many arguments and disputes. The recent advancements in the modern state of the art technology had been focusing in the path of cloning endangered species to avoid the extinction (Lanza et.al, 2000). However, this is highly an ideological issue. Experiments have been conducted on various animals such as cows which proved to be a stepping stone for the next milestone to achieve in the field. The social

relationships faced by the clones are also highly controversial.

Cloning

Introduction

Cloning is defined as the production of genetically identical organism with similar properties and structure. The similar individuals produced asexually are done through the course of cloning. The government in many countries has encouraged its scientific advancements in the field of cloning to boost the economy by producing supplements to enhance the growth of crops. However, many religious organizations oppose all forms of cloning. The recent advancements in technology have provided the possibility of human and animal cloning (Moriyoshi, 1991). There had been unforeseen consequences of cloning limiting the entire level of success. The extraction of DNA for the parent organism to transfer in the newly cloned individual might lead to abnormalities (Chang, 1978). The complete functionality of the created object is questionable and poses great challenges for science and technology to overcome.

Discussion

The recent advancements in the modern state of the art technology had been focusing in the path of cloning endangered species to avoid the extinction (Lanza et.al, 2000). However, this is highly an ideological issue. Experiments have been conducted on various animals such as cows which proved to be a stepping stone for the next milestone to achieve in the field (Moriyoshi, 1991). Cloning has been a subject of science fiction in the entertainment industry which received high appreciation from the critics.

There are several ways introduced to cloning such as artificial embryo twinning and somatic cell nuclear transfer. There has been a debate on the issues of cloning and its methods for years. It has now been possibly practical to achieve in recent years. The topic remained the saving of endangered species and its security (Lanza et.al, 2000). Cloning is perceived as ethically immoral by religious organizations due to the treatment of a biologically existing person as a mere subject of experimentation. This leads to protests by religious groups regarding the cloning.

Scientists are predicting successful human cloning within next 50 years approximation. However, the concern lies in the acceptability of the cloned people in the society. The faith remains the survival of mankind, but the perspectives differ. For example, people who lost a child in a car accident will be able to get an exact replica of their lost child. However, the acceptance from parents to the child as their own remains a question. Similarly, cloning of human limbs can also be made possible. This can be beneficial for the handicap and patients of fatal diseases to ...
