A clinical trial is an evaluation pilot of a product, substance, drug , diagnostic technique or treatment that, when applied to humans, intended to assess its efficacy and safety.

Studies of promising new or experimental treatments in patients are called clinical trials. A clinical trial is performed only when there is reason to believe that the treatment being studied may be beneficial for the patient. Treatments used in clinical trials often prove to have real benefits. Researchers conduct studies of new treatments to determine the usefulness of the new treatment, the mechanism of action of the new treatment, if the effectiveness is greater than other treatments already available, the side effects of new treatment and if they are higher or lower than conventional treatment if it exceeds the benefits to side effects and in which patients the new treatment is more useful (Strakos & Riney, 2006).
