Introduction

Student's clinical evaluation, as a matter of fact, is one of the essential tasks at the nursing institutions. The value of clinical evaluations is very vital due to this reason instructors cannot skip it, even though the work is a tedious one. Primarily, evaluation is a systematic process, which involves a collection and implementation of information gathered from various sources pertaining to clinical competence and the outcome of that process.

One of the primary challenges for clinical evaluation is the use of reliable and valid evaluation tools. Nursing institutes used a comprehensive variety of tools in order to bring efficiency; however, these tools are often inefficient in terms of their demonstrating information in a precise manner. Furthermore, several other issues hinder their very design including, nepotism, clinical environment, experiences etc. In order to mitigate these loop holes, this essay will discuss some of the clinical evaluations and their implications.

The Virtual Clinical Evaluation Tool

The instructors had to do a tedious task of documenting the nursing student's evaluations, as a matter of fact; this is one of the essential processes. This tool replaced the traditional way of evaluating students since it involves electronic evaluation technique. The virtual clinical evaluation tools are in the form of an Excel spreadsheet, it gives the option of instant retrieval of all the information including its mathematical calculations for further analysis. Besides giving an alternative to faculty to either give a satisfactory or unsatisfactory grade, this device used Likert Scale from 0 to 4 to further segregate the grading criteria. This spread sheet has the capability to automatically calculate the students percentage grades and has the ability to graphically represent the performance of the students for the purpose of comparing (Sander, 2008).
