Clinical Information System

Introduction

Information systems have a great deal of potential to improve the healthcare quality and outcomes together with reduction of cost. As the world I approaching the revolutionary changes for policies of healthcare in the United States, the healthcare sector is undergoing confusing and complex changes. Several changes involve the integration of information systems. The incorporation of information system in healthcare has been growing in a similar way as it has been growing in larger cultural landscape. We find technology everywhere and though we are not clear what innovation we may experience next, but we know it is a foundation (Smith & Eloff, 1999).

Information system in healthcare industry has not just penetrated the sciences of nano-technology and bio-technology. The incorporation of database management systems, significant growth of web based systems and network based infrastructures have been paired with latest government laws. All this is a part of sector wide growth which will bring in everlasting changes in the healthcare practices and administration (Nitenson, et al., 2010).

In this paper we will study the current trends of healthcare information systems in the United States healthcare industry. Moreover, we will discuss the role of COSTAR-Computer Stored Ambulatory Record and RMRS- Regenstrief Medical Record System with respect to the quality of healthcare, data security and privacy. Moreover we will also discuss the Interoperability and compatibility of these two healthcare information systems with other systems. In the end, we will discuss Management and enterprise systems as part of the EMR (electronic medical record) together with the explanation of the importance of healthcare information technology in ensuring data security and contributing to quality patient care Cost
