Introduction

This paper intends to answer two specific questions based on clinical setting in Detroit Michigan United States. This first question is based on Public health surveillance, where it describes the steps involved in planning, analyzing, interviewing, and evaluating surveillance. In addition to this, core competencies expectations from public health nurses are also discussed. Further, second question is based on Disaster management plan within the clinical community. It discusses the prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. Moreover, internal and external examples of disasters are also analyzed.

Question # 1

Public Health Surveillance

According to World Health Organization, public health surveillance is a systematic process of collecting, analyzing and interpreting data, which is related to health. This data is required to plan, implement, and evaluate public health practice (who.int).

Planning

The team shall be developed for the purpose of public health surveillance. This team will be responsible to conduct all the steps in order to reach the goal of promoting health. The first phase is panning, where the team will plan the strategies (Lee, L. and Thacker, 2010).

A strategy selection for monitoring that can meet the requirements of surveillance program, depending on the type of information needed. Sentinel surveillance systems are an example health facilities or laboratories in areas selected reporting all cases that exist on therefore a certain condition providing trends may affect the total population. Report samples are a good way to use limited resources to monitor possible health problems. For example, the networks health care providers who report cases of influenza or a laboratory system reports cases of some childhood bacterial infection.

Analyzing

A clinical service must rely on competent doctors in clinical practice. They must be able to assimilate information from the patient or other sources (biologists, radiologists, dieticians, physiotherapists), and then synthesize, to establish a diagnosis of the problem, develop a program therapeutic ...
