Climate Change Increases Precipitation

There will be longer wet seasons and higher temperatures to the lower Mekong basin due to climate change. Also due to this, the cultivation of some major crops such as rice and some other important crops, majority of the population will be affected. According to most of the experts it is one of the most dangerous and vulnerable watershed that has been caused by the global climate change ( Thomson Reuter's Foundation, 2013). The Mekong flows from the plateau of Tibet to the South China Sea and passes through China, Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand. It ranks 12th among the rivers of the world. It has been observed by most of the experts and environmental agencies that the average temperature of the globe is increasing up to 2 degree Celsius, which is responsible for bringing many changes to the climate. Also people believe that this temperature will increase up to 5 degree Celsius with the end of this century. Due to this phenomenon some of the commercial crops will also be affected as well like rubber and coffee. There will also be shortage in some food commodities like rice which is the most important crop of the basin. The key message of this study is that there has been a shift in the climate of the basin.

Similarly, Hartman who has worked on this study believes that this study will be helpful for most of the countries and enable them to prepare in a better way.
