The gap between people healthier and less healthy has widened in Australia, which asked the makers of the policies concerned to improve social equity and health challenges. The article explains the difference between "healthy changes" and "social inequities in health” (Boe, 2009). There is also the distinction between what is equity in health compared to what is equity in health in a broader social perspective. In doing so, they clarify some key concepts such as "social gradient" and "race to the top". They have three great ways to act on the inequities in health, either: 1) target only people living in poverty (target), 2) to focus on the State of health of disadvantaged populations by comparing it to the State of health of other groups (thereby narrowing the gap in health) and 3) reduce inequities in all population groups (Gunderman, 2007). The author argues that these means are interdependent and that must be approached sequentially. The only way to reduce the gap in an equitable manner in health is to improve the State of health of groups of people less healthy to align it with the State of health of groups with better health. The race to the bottom is not an option.
