Task 1

Being a Civil Engineer, it is not easy for anyone to be able to promote self based learning. This is said because of the fact that the profession of Civil Engineering is basically related to the execution of some practical tasks, such as, construction work, etc. Therefore, in order to be able to promote self based learning in such a case, it is important for an individual to have the chance to be able to exercise his or her expertise in this field. Same is the case with me. My tenure at Al-Mubraq Company helped me a lot in this regard, as it provided me with the chance to be able to put my theoretical skills and knowledge into practice. I worked at the organization for 3 long years, which helped me in gaining some really precious experience. The role and responsibilities that were assigned to me in this position, and that helped me in being able to execute the process of self managed learning included things like, the construction of many of the governmental institutions in Afghanistan that were demolished during the war in 2002, being responsible for the management of the many employees and civil engineers who worked in our company in order to determine their roles and responsibilities during the process of construction, establishing the positions of a certain area to produce and surveying. Apart from this, I was also responsible for the analysis of the reasons that were responsible for the structural failure of a building. Moreover, I also used surveyor tools including theodolites, like optical. It can be said that, skills and knowledge in relation to Civil Engineering was something that I already had hold of, through my education, but for my personal and professional development in this field, I needed the chance to be able to implement these into practicality. My time at Al-Mubraq Company provided me with the chance to practically implement my skills and knowledge, which played an immense role in my personal and professional development in this field. This approach of learning that I had adopted was based on the concept of outdoor learning, which gives an individual the chance to be able to practice and implement the theoretical and educational knowledge and skills that I had gained.

Apart from this, other kind of approaches could also have been implemented that would have been helpful in my personal and professional development as a Civil Engineer. The other approach that could have been used for this purpose might have been the neuro-linguistic programming approach. NLP is concerned in the broadest sense of human communication and can be viewed as a collection of methods applied to continuous development (Thomson, Ross, 2009, p. 34-36). Pacing (Fit, Call) reflects the communication partners and is based on the assumption that people who get on well with each other, align (including in tone, volume, rate of speech, ...
