Introduction

Christianity is the Abrahamic world religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ described in the New Testament. Christians believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah, the Son of God and the Savior of mankind. Christians do not doubt the historicity of Jesus Christ. The roots of the Christian faith are connected with the Old Testament Judaism. Christianity arose in the I century in Palestine, which was at that time under the authority of the Roman Empire, initially among the Jews. This paper discusses Christianity in a holistic context.

Discussion

Today, in Christianity, there exist following three branches/guidelines:

Catholicism;

Orthodoxy, and

Protestantism.

Two major themes that remained unchanged:

Scripture:

Christianity exists within a group of books in what is known as the Bible, which contains sacred text for consideration and obedience. The various Christian denominations vary in the way of translation and interpretation of those scriptures. Virtually all Christian churches accept the authority of the Bible, including the Old Testament and New Testament, although the biblical canon or books that were included differ among the different denominations, such as the Old Testament.

Belief:

The basic body of beliefs and doctrines shared by Christians are widely shared among these beliefs are shared by Christians:

Man was created by a God.

Also the material world was created by the god, and God intervenes through supernatural acts in the physical world and is sensitive to the beings that inhabit it

Right conduct God expects of believers and rewards and punishes the actions of the same.

God inspired the words of Jesus of Nazareth to his words became a divine message that is related what God expected of men.

However, in other Christian beliefs and doctrines differ from one another, for example on what is the criterion for accepting a belief. For Catholics and Orthodox churches have instituted their own or supervised in some way by God to guide Christians. For Protestants the main source of knowledge is the Bible and divine grace that God gives to certain men. In general all Christians recognize that God wants actions are carried out folks are inspired by the Holy Spirit. The sacred writings, among which the Bible, the main source doctrine applies in many denominations, including the current Protestant (Jowett, 2012).

Response to Luther's 95 Theses if I was Pope Leo X:

The Challenge of Martin Luther to the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences better known as The 95 Theses, challenged the skills of the Church of Rome with regard to humanitarian war penance, the authority of Luther and the usefulness of indulgences. The way I would have responded to Luther's 95 theses if I was either a nun, pr a monk, or Pope Leo X would be that Luther wrote his 95 theses as support for a theoretical discussion, a theological dispute regarding the common practice at the time. Therefore, I would have questioned the accuracy of this account, noting that no contemporaneous evidence of the event.
