Political Overview

With 66 million members and the title of the world's largest political party, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) governs China since 1949, tolerating no opposition and generally reacting polemically against dissidents. The party has influence over many aspects of the lives of Chinese citizens, as they learn in school to what assist them on television, their jobs, their homes and even the number of children they can have. But China is actually governed by the nine men who comprise the Standing Committee of the CPC political body, the Politburo. This is an organization with 24 members elected by the Central Committee of the party and that in addition to ensuring continued Online CCP, it controls three other important institutions, the Military Committee, the National People's Congress (Parliament) and the State Council (the administrative arm of the government).

As there is no election to the Standing Committee, get to it is more a matter of political patronage and influence. The function of this committee is confidential, but some analysts believe that its members meet frequently and often disagree. It is rare, however, that these discussions are leaked or made public. Standing Committee members also distribute among themselves the positions of secretary general of the party, prime minister, president of the National People's Congress and director of the Central Committee of Disciplinary Inspection. The new Politburo members are chosen after a rigorous screening, which are investigated in the past, the views and experience of each candidate.

National People's Congress

According to the Constitution of 1982, the most powerful organ of the state would be the National People's Congress, but in practice it works more like an approver of the decisions of the PCC.
