Introduction

This essay is based on the analysis of novel “The Devil's Children: A history of childhood and murder” written by Loretta Loach. This book is based on a true crime history of children who kill and the adults make sense of them. The book reveals that how children involve in deliberate and unusual crimes are now in wider deliberations about childhood, morality, ethics and experiences. The goal of the book is to reveal the social crimes and misconducts which are rapidly increasing in the adolescents and children and their hazardous effects in and on the society. The learning and study of the topic juvenile delinquency is a lively, active and ever-changing area of scientific investigation in which the concepts, theories and procedures are persistently developing (Loach, 2009).

The text in the book is informative, scholarly, comprehensive, studious, well organized, objective, thought provoking and practical. The main objective of the novel is mission oriented presentation of many views and diverse perceptions that differentiate the study and learning of juvenile delinquency and imitate inter punitive nature. This book is not dedicated to a single view or concept. Children of the devil show that the idea of charging juveniles as adults goes back 150 years. Loach does not say exactly, but it is quite clear that her purpose for writing this book is to educate the public to understand that children who kill are not extremely rare or very bad. In fact, it shows how children generally do not have an understanding of the true nature of death (Loach, 2009).

This novel explains in detail about the social, political and cultural factors that lead children to kill which results in Juvenile delinquency. Juvenile delinquency refers to crimes committed by minors. Most legal systems address this issue using procedural specialties when prosecuting such conduct and specific coercive repression, such as, for example, juvenile detention centres. The juvenile crimes often receive great attention from the media and politicians. This is because the level and types of youth crime can be used by analysts and the media as an indicator of the general state of morality and public order in a country, and as a result can be a source of alarm and moral panic (Satterthwaite, 1997).

Like most types of offenses, crimes committed by juveniles have increased since the mid-twentieth century. There are many theories about the causes of juvenile crimes, which are regarded as particularly important within criminology. This is because the number of crimes grows enormously between fifteen and twenty years. Second, any theory on the causes of crime should consider juvenile crimes as adult criminals probably have had a start in crime when they were young.
