Introduction

Spanking can be termed as act of hitting someone's buttock to cause temporary pain, but it should not produce any sort of injury. Usually one person is striking the buttocks of another person with bare hands. When bare hand is used, it is also referred as slapping or smacking. There are other forms of spanking as well.

Spanking has been used to indiscipline an infant or child who is showing some sort of aggressive or unacceptable behaviour. It generally involves one of the parent, guardian or even teacher striking the child's buttocks. The practice has been somewhat abandoned in schools in some of the countries, so we don't see teachers using spanking these days. There are many arguments that are in favour or against spanking. While some people are of claim that it should be done to bring some discipline and instil some fear into the hearts of children, while some people also claim it to be decretory to children and should not be done.

Discussion

If we want our child to be polite, we must appreciate them if they act appropriately and give them some sort of a reward (Maguire-Jack et al, 2012). Similarly if they are throwing tantrums, then there should be some sort of disciplinary measure that must be exercised to make them realize the consequences of their mistakes. Consequences that are pleasant are called reinforcement. Giving them money, praise and some sort of privileges is always done (Maguire-Jack et al, 2012). Similarly, there should be some sort of punishment if they are not acting in a responsible manner. Even though child will be snobbish, and one must tolerate them to a certain extent.
