Introduction

This paper intends to explore about the child psychology. The paper focuses on two different 10 years old boys; Kevin and Brian having entirely different family environment but studies in the same school. Kevin is a below average student and do not possess strong and stable family background. On the other hand, Brian excels in school and possess extremely stable family environment. I have been hired as the new psychologist within the school and my first responsibility is to explain the differences in the two boys. The purpose of this paper is to focus on two schools of psychology and describe the differences and potential long term outcome from the viewpoint of each school. Lastly, the paper will focus on the factors that put children at risk for behavioral and conduct problems.

Schools of Psychology

I have chosen humanistic and behaviorism schools of psychology for the purpose of explaining the differences and potential long term outcomes of each of the boys.

Humanistic School

Humanistic school of psychology might explain the differences in boys as the positive aspect of human nature. Moreover, this school would stress that both the boys are inherently good, it is only their situations that are making the differences in their approach towards life. Kevin has made his choice to follow the footsteps of his father and he is being controlled by the family environment. At such a young age of 10 years, Kevin is faced with a lot of problems which according to the humanistic school is making him to reach the goal of possessing everything through stealing and fighting (Laura, 2010).
