ABSTRACT

The objectives of this study are to identity how poverty affects the wellbeing of the children, the methods of social work intervention and the gaps missing to improve the methods of intervention. This research identifies the relationship between poverty and social problems exhibited by children and families. This researcher is conducted by mixed method systematic literature review, drawing upon existing electronic databases in the social sciences and health, 'grey' literature, selected journals academic books and subject excerpts. The University of Leicester library search engines is fully utilized to search for materials. These are include Asia, Ingeta connect, Amazon.co.uk, Social Care online and social sciences journals. The researcher also uses other search engines and government websites such as DCES, for yearly reports and statistics. The researcher also get information from the studies commissioned by the Department of Health for children, schools and families and the fostering network, including Every Child Matters resource. Changes in parents' marital status include divorce, separation, marriage, and re-marriage. These events entail the movement of custodial parents into and out of the household, the movement of stepparents into and out of the household, and possibly the movement of siblings and step-siblings into and out of the household, and affect the child. In the U.K. income poverty is determined by official poverty thresholds which take into account household size and are adjusted each year for changes in the cost of living based on the Consumer Price Index. Besides the debate between relative versus absolute thresholds, many poverty researchers contend that the measure developed in the 1960s is outdated and has several major weakness. Family income, and for that matter, poverty status, is volatile in nature; family income fluctuate from month to month and year to year. Most poor families move in and out of poverty, while a smaller subset of families remains persistently poor. Most estimates of household income, however, are measured for a single year.
