Executive Summary

Unemployment is a major problem of macroeconomics. The high unemployment rate in recent years has drawn attention of many macro and labor economists towards itself. To reduce the total level of unemployment in long run effective policies are need to be encouraged. These policies may include: employability's improvement of the labor supply, improvement in the incentives, economic growth, and skills improvement, altering aggregate demand, tax reformation, employment funding / subsidies and growth of economy. In this study we try to explore the concept of unemployment in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on unemployment and its relation with government policies. The research also analyzes many aspects of government policies and tries to gauge its effect on unemployment. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for unemployment and tries to describe the overall effect of government policies on unemployment.

Introduction of the Research

The high unemployment rate in recent years has drawn attention of many macro and labor economists towards itself. Extensive hypothetical and practical work has provided many recommendations of policy making to reduce unemployment. Labor economists have not agreed over whether unemployment levels vary in response to the same factors in different countries; which policies will be most effective for reducing unemployment and which policies will be appropriate for those countries that differ in social, political and economic establishments.

Economic instability is generally measured as the changes in Gross domestic product, inflation rates or unemployment. There are two schools of thoughts for the affect of government policies in complex democratic system: the mixed economy and big government's role. Supporters of mixed economy believes that state only facilitates and directs the market economy for public welfare's sake and its role should be minimal in organizing social and economical relations in society.
