Congenital Heart Diseases in Children

Congenital Heart Diseases in Children

Introduction

Health refers to the proper functioning of the body organs in association with mental and spiritual well being of the individual. Heart diseases have become a leading cause of death in United Kingdom. The prevalence of different heart diseases has become in the adults as well as the children.

Congenital heart disease is however, not an infective disease, it is a by birth defect in one or more parts of the human heart. The CHD includes heart valves, walls of the heart, the arteries and veins associated with the heart performing functions like supplying the heart with blood or taking the blood away from the heart. This condition, if not managed, can be fatal for the patient, as the heart's function is disturbed by the presence of these defects.

Congenital heart disease, abbreviated as CHD, being the by birth disease, is found in children. Every year around 5-9 births out of one thousand live births are diagnosed with the defect. The term congenital heart disease is considered as an umbrella expression in which all the defects of the heart are included that is present in a child when he or she is born (Perloff, & Marelli, 2012).

As the disease is present at the birth, it is most commonly found in the young children. The adults usually get treated in the childhood, or are trained to manage the condition using the treatment regimens designed for the disorder.  This paper holds the extract of the scholarly articles and researches and is a detailed study of the disease in children.

Discussion

The general term for a variety of birth defects is the Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) that has an effect on the normal functioning of the human heart. The meaning of term “congenital” is that it is the condition that is present at the time of birth. One of the most widespread types of defects of birth is the congenital heart disease that has effects on every 9 babies per 1000 born babies in the United Kingdom. From small defects, the congenital heart disease covers a wide spectrum, which can be completely compatible and asymptomatic with a lifespan that is normal. This normal lifespan can be shifted to more severe and stern kinds that need rapid and imperative intervention.

Many defects of heart are possible, however most of the defects either impede the blood flow in the heart or in the vessels that are closer to it or cause the blood to go through irregular route through the heart. Only one ventricle, more rarely, may be present, or the left or right side of the heart has abortive to form appropriately (hypoplastic heart) (Weijerman, et al. 2010). Considerable quantities of pushing of blood cause the cyanotic congenital heart disease from the right to the left side without the passing through the lungs.
