Charlie St. Cloud's (Zac Efron) brother Sam St. Cloud (Charlie Tahan) is killed in a car accident. Charlie is stricken with grief for over five years, not doing a thing with his life besides working in a cemetery. They fall in love with each other on their first date. The next morning Charlie discovers Tess's boat is missing, and is possibly dead from the last night's storm. He reasons she must have died, her spirit traveling into the cemetery where they had met for the first time. He goes on an all night search for her, skipping His nightly baseball practice with his dead brother spirit. Once Charlie finds Tess's boat wreckage he takes his shirt off, and dives into the water to look for her. His partner occupying him calls and emergency helicopter (Sherwood 9). Charlie finds Tess laying on a rock with a severe case of Hyperthermia. He partially undresses her to attempt to warm her with his body heat. The helicopter finally comes and takes her to the emergency room. Once she recovers from a Coma, Charlie starts living his life aging, and he and Tess sail into the sunset to live happily ever after. Sam moves on into the spirit world, and Charlie is unable to see his brother any more, but knows his brother will always be right beside him. Charlie St. Cloud is intensely moving, and it will make you evaluate life, and it is problems. I have seen the novel, and read the book multiple times because of its powerful message. Although many critics have written bad reviews of the novel, Charlie St. Cloud is an excellent novel and novel.
