Charity Fund-Raising Critical Analysis

Introduction

Many departments and areas combine to form an effective charity program where each domain must perform to ensure the overall good performance of the program. The most essential of these is the fund raising or fund collection for the running of the program. It is important to note that the collection of funds is a constant never ending activity that any welfare program or organization must always continue. In addition, also a very lengthy process requires great though and consideration. Therefore, charity Organization all over the world gives special attention to the various means and techniques that would help them to ensure significant fund collection. One of such programs that give special attention to its fund raising activities includes 'Action for children'. This paper aims to discuss the services this Organization offers and the area it focuses in order to raise its funds to achieve its goals. The paper also discusses of how well written bids can help the organizations in fund raising.

Discussion

“Action for Children” is a very famous UK based children's charity program. The national headquarters of this program is in Watford where it is a charity program registered under the Scottish and English law. Its mission is to help and serve the most neglected and vulnerable children, teenagers and other young individuals to break through from inequality, deprivation and injustice (Turner, Miller & Gilbert, 2001, pp. 468).

Government grants

The program has introduced, implemented and currently achieving its goals with the help of 480 projects that includes financing various schools and offering many services. In addition, the programs also promote and encourage social justice with the help of research and by campaigning and lobbying for change (Skarmeas & Shabbir, 2011, pp.728). In the year 2010-11, the program achieved a gross income of approximately £200 million that makes the program one of the 20 biggest and functional charities in the UK. Therefore, the statistics may depict that the program is doing very well indeed in managing its funds. However, it is important to note that size of this charity program requires constant back and support by the Government. It is estimated by a report in 2010, that 20% of the finds collected by the program were as a result of Government supported programs (Evans, 2011, pp.168).

One of the most recent campaigns of the program was called “On our own two feet”. The program aimed to promote the idea of reinstating the savings accounts for the children in care and hence following the elimination of Child Trust Fund. However, this campaign was very successful, as it leads directly to the creation of the program by the coalition government. It is called the Junior Individual Savings Account (ISA) scheme to which the government has committed to invest approximately £16.75 million up until the year 2015.
