Introduction

During the late 19th century and the early 20th century, many Mississippians had large families. The future writer and Nobel laureate William Faulkner was born at New Albany in 1897 (as William Falkner), one of four brothers. Faulkner reading is one of the greatest pleasures one can find in a book. I've already read some of the books, the village, Absalom, Absalom; Horse gambit, and sound and fury. When we here about “As I Lay Dying” which is a novel published in 1930 and written by William Faulkner, one of the most renowned novelists of the twentieth century American literature. The novel, which Faulkner referred, it as a "tour de force" is the fifth of his literary output, and was written in the words of the author, "six frantic weeks," while working as a fireman and night watchman at the power plant at the University of Mississippi. The book gets narrated by the technique of stream of consciousness with 15 narrators in 59 chapters. It is the story of the death of Addie Bundren, the wife of a humble farmer Mississippi, and the search for the family, noble or selfish, you want to honor his desire to be buried with "his people" in the town of Jefferson.

However, in this novel, Faulkner portrays faithfully retrograded from a peasant family obsessed with the death of the mother. The book makes a reader excited, as it gets written in first person type which has the laws of attraction quote. Detailing the beginning of each paragraph is the character who speaks, he says. This makes the novel is very readable - to be Faulkner - and the reader will not get lost in minor details. Moreover, the overall story is also unique, as it completely based on the significance of an event that highlights the characters with fullest details.

Discussion

William Faulkner and many others affected dialect in an effort to speak for the common folk. Similarly, William Faulkner adopted dialect in his novels, making stark linguistic, hence social, distinctions between northerners and the southerners, servile Blacks and impoverished Whites, the aristocrats and the working class. However, in the novel “As I lay Dying” Faulkner implements a variety of literary techniques to mold his characters' voices.

The book lays emphasizes on characters; however, the main characters include Anse, Addie, Jewel, Cash, Darl, Dewey Dell, and Vardaman Bundren. The paper will discuss the Bundren family members and try to create an in-depth analysis of the members. Whereas, highlighting on the characteristics of members will also help in generating key insights about the family members. However, throughout the novel the members had differing characteristics, as they focused on various aspects, which got highlighted, by their responsive behaviors to the situations.
