Changes in the World during 20th Century

Introduction

The world has been significantly changed over the period of 20th century and the beginning of 21st. One of the major changes the world has faced over this period in history is the advancement of science and technology. It is by the virtue of technological innovations of the 20th century that people were able to enjoy the equipments and facilities which were not even dreamed of until the late 19th century. For example, the telephone, car, radio, air flights were innovated during the early 20th century. The remarkable development was made in the area of medications; first antibiotic was developed, study of genes began, and improvement of human genes was proposed and modification was made in the genes of plants. Besides the science and medication, Psychology and Anthropology was advanced due to the equal mental power theories given by Boas. The concept of counter colonization existed due to the advancements of transportation technologies; due to the increased migration rates, the cross cultural communities developed and people began to raise their voice against racial bias.

Major Changes in the Western World

In the 20th century, one of the major changes that occurred in the western world was the innovation and advancements of the science and medications (F-A, p. 924). The 20th century is commonly known as the age of electricity due to the electric inventions at large scale; Marconi's radio and air flight by Wright brothers, inventions of typewriter, telephone and car can be considered as major examples. All the academic disciplines became highly organized due to the development in science and technology; and the trainers and employers began to consider scientific knowledge as the benchmark requirement (F-A, p. 925). Some of the major scientists belonged to this period in history who tried to give solutions about the theoretical problems, as well as they attempted to describe the nature of world and all the object surrounding us. Although people initially had doubts and confusions about the scientific theories and concepts, the scientists such as Albert Einstein played a major role in making people accept the scientific theories. The theory of relativity further gave rise to people's imaginations about the cosmos; this was something beyond the traditional physics or scientific theories.

For the first time in 1908, experiments in animal breeding were started, in order to establish the linkage between these experiments and the human biology. These experiments helped the human biologists in understanding the processes due to which the characteristics are transmitted over generations (Genetics). Once, the study was completed, the physicians became able to treat the diseases based on the genetic history of the patients. In addition, doctors also got control over the hormones of human body, so they could treat different diseases by adjusting the balance of natural hormones in the body of the patient (F-A, p. 926). The first antibiotic Penicillin was discovered, and health education became common for everyone. During the same period, neuroscientists made significant ...
