A competitive theory model answers the following questions.

How do we define our business today and how will we define it tomorrow?

In what industries or markets will we compete?  The intensity of competition in an industry determines its profit potential and competitive attractiveness.

What will be our fundamental approach to attaining competitive advantage (low price, differentiation, niche)?

Chain hotels give you peace of mind as to what to expect and almost always live up to expectation due to familiarity. Unlike many independent hotels, they are generally more professionally operated and regularly refurbished as chains fiercly fight to retain each client by additional bedroom facilities and awards schemes. Whilst rates in the week tend to be quite high, for the weekend visitor, there are price incentives due to a lack of business travellers and so its always advisable to check out this business category of London hotel for bargains. Of note is the Intercontinental group who almost every weekend offer great rates in their central London hotels through their Holiday Inn and Express by Holiday Inn Hotels scattered right across the capital. Being a major city with business travellers all year round attending conferences and exhibitions, London has all international chains of hotels represented. these tend to be concentrated around high density visitor areas, notably, the West End, City and Kensington. Of late many have started to appear adjacent to the new exhibition center of ExCel in the east of London. The InterContinental Hotels are very upmarket being 5 star category and are located in the very center and at London Heathrow. Crowne Plaza Hotels in London are good 4 star hotels of a deluxe category and are in prime locations. Holiday Inn Hotels in London are generally 4 star standard aimed at the business traveller. Express by Holiday Inn are a new breed of modern less well appointed 3 star category hotels mainly located in secondary locations across London, mainly but not always on the periphery of important areas but offering sensible rates, especially at the weekends.
