Introduction

For this paper, I will narrate how I worked therapeutically one on one with one of by clients in a total of eight sessions. I had agreed on collaboratively working with the client in order to improve her self- worth and self esteem, as well as setting personal goals and achieving them. My client, who I will call 'A' gave me the consent of using her as a subject for my study this problem has seriously affected A's quality of life. She referred herself as she decided to do something for her children. This indicates that she wanted to change herself. I chose Cognitive Behavioural Therapy because CBT will be the most appropriate applied theory for addressing the issues my client is facing. Although, there are other theories too like, psychodynamic, which focuses on trying to get 'inside the head' of individuals so as to make sense of their experiences, relationships, and how world is perceived by them; and person centred approach, which is a non-directive approach to being with another that believes in the others ability and potential and ability to make the right choices for him or her self, irrespective of the therapist's own values, but since we were working on present problems to help with my clients future so CBT was the most appropriate approach.

Theory and Key Concepts

Albert Ellis proposed Rational-Emotive Behavioural Therapy in 1950's. REBT is a philosophically-based, humanistic approach that emphasizes capacity of individuals for creating their own self-defeating and self-enhancing emotions. The ABC Model developed by Ellis entails:

A - Activating Event: (actual event, thought or image)

B - Beliefs: a belief about the event or situation

C - Consequence: emotional and/or behavioural consequence

Initial Assessment and Formulation

She felt embarrassed and humiliated. She eventually got over this but then had a similar critical event as an adult. She was at an airport and had diarrhoea and could not find the toilet. The feelings from the past returned and have developed from their.. My client is 27 years old white woman and had a toilet phobia which had developed into agoraphobia. Her fear was that there will not be a toilet available when she needs it, and she will have an accident. 'A' has two children, boy aged 6 and a girl aged 4. She also suffered from extreme panic and low self esteem.

'A' felt trapped and was not able to go out at all. She said depression has always been there. She felt lonely and hopeless. She always looked after others but had no time for herself. She said that she has no fun and enjoyment in her life. She could not take her children to school or the park because of her ...
