Introduction

The purpose behind this paper is to assess in depth Catholic charities, their norms, goals and the challenges such charities face and how can those issues be resolved. To begin with we will understand catholic charities and how they operate some of the key areas of practice.

Discussion

Catholic Charities is a huge network of similar charities throughout the country it is headquartered in Virginia and they follow the basic principle of helping people who are in need and to be just and to bring the church to do the same. Currently the Catholic charity is one of the largest charities within the country.

History of Catholic charities

Currently there are more than 160 charities within the US that are a part of the catholic charities which was previously known as the National conference of Catholic charities. The history of this charity dates back to 1727 when the Ursuline sisters arrived from to the United States and started their orphanage it was the first Catholic charity. By 1900 more than 800 catholic institutions were providing shelter and care for orphans the ill and disabled. Now the Catholic charity has a vast network of catholic institutions situated all across the United States. Apart from providing shelter and protection to orphans, disabled and the severely ill people these charities provide counseling and guidance to people who might be in any turmoil. They also run adoption, rehabilitation, and housing programs (CCUSA, 2012).

Norms of Catholic Charities

The Catholic Church has strong ethical and moral norms which are mandated within each catholic charity. The norms include following the social mission of the Church and promoting justice and equality for every person in need. They major principles they follow include goodness, rightness and ensuring that every decision taking is according to the social mission of the church at all times. ...
