Casey Anthony Case

Summary of the Crime

This case was intriguing enough to catch the attention of the public moreover; hype was also created by media. From the beginning, one bizarre character has entered the scene. In the year 2008, on July 15 a call was made by Cindy Anthony to 911 in Orlando in state of Florid to report that her daughter Casey Anthony stole her car and some money. She called back later to report that her granddaughter that is two years old daughter of Casey was missing and had been missing for more than two months. Casey's daughter Caylee Marie Anthony was two years old at the time when this call was made. Interview was conducted by police with Casey Anthony and they arrested her in charge of child endangerment as she told a number of lies to the investigators about the whereabouts of Caylee for the past 31 days (Ashton, 2012).

The prosecutors claimed that Casey murdered her daughter with the help of chloroform and duct tape. Whereas, the defendants claimed that the child was drowned in the swimming pool and the body was disposed of by George Anthony. Later, skull of Cindy was found and a duct tape was recovered but it did not prove that who and how she was killed. Media gave hype to this case and portrayed Casey as a careless mother and put all blames on her. No evidences were found to be substantial enough to prove the guilt so Casey was found to be not guilty however, she was found to be guilty to not provide correct information to the investigators (Ashton, 2012).

Description of the Courtroom Work Group

The courtroom work group can be described as an informal arrangement that exist between prosecutor of criminal, defense attorney and judicial officer. The defense team in this case was led by Jose Baez. The judicial team was comprised of twelve members (Reed, 2012).

In the courtroom work group, most of the time of the prosecutors was spent with other members of the work group. Prosecutors were making attempts to anticipate the reaction of the judges and defense attorneys. Prosecutors continued to anticipate response of other members even when they were conducting interviews with the witnesses and legal research. Thus, it can be extracted from this scenario description that idea about the prosecutors' activities can be gauged within the context of courtroom work group (Reed, 2012).

The defense team also faced difficulties in finding out evidences to prove their arguments but they managed to counter allegations of prosecutors. All the claims and statements that were put forwarded by the prosecutors had to face immense and strict challenges from the team of defendants. The team of defendants might not be confident on their statements but they were confident that the claims and arguments of prosecutors are not substantial enough. Their main strategy to fight this case was to present challenges to the statements of the prosecutors (Reed, 2012).
