The success of every organization depends on the leaders of the organization. Leadership may be defined as the behavioral act of creating a conducive environment whereby people exploit their full potential with a view of realizing organization's vision and mission (Richard & Patricia, 2010). In the case of the mountain west health plans Inc., the leadership styles displayed by Quinn, Rasmussen and Evelyn are very elaborate and reflect directly to the performance of the organization.

Question number 01: Analyze the issues faced by Martin Quinn.

Senior vice president martin Quinn was concerned about the increasing cost of labor intensive service department. Quinn was concerned because the total salaries of the department were making 70% of total budget for the department. Moreover, the second issue that he felt was the increasing hold time that was reducing total calls made per hour. Quinn was concerned to reduce the increasing cost and wanted more efficient work schedules.

Question number 02: Compare and contrast the leadership styles of Evelyn Gustafson and Erik Rasmussen.

Evelyn Gustafson's leadership style reflects people-oriented leadership whereby there is low concern for productivity but a very high concern for people. Being experienced and knowledgeable on the tasks, her primary objective was to make sure that the whole of her department's staff was comfortable, happy and gave sufficient information to subscribers. The latter was achieved through training, and the end result was customer satisfaction, and a very friendly working environment. The style is useful in coordinating and harmonizing people in the firm (Richard & Patricia, 2010).

However, Evelyn's overfriendliness to subordinates had a negative effect to the firm's efficiency. She gave them too much freedom and breaks, the end result being few calls being made and complaints of customers hold-up. This style ...
