According to the case study, Sean Gaffney has not been observed to be acting as objective observer to a great extent. He was asked to work as a consultant in the organization. As a consultant, he was supposed to deal with the staff members and act as a consultant to them. Gaffney has been more of a subjective observer, caring about people and getting attached to them. Such type of an observer has the ability to get attached to the people very easily and will deal with them accordingly. Although he has been working as a very subjective observer, he still does not lose the element of being an objective observer. (Gaffney, 2004)
The staff actually required a consultant who would have listened to them carefully. According to him, Gestalt therapy has helped him in working with the people and controlling his feelings. After meeting with the problems faced by the staff and the patients having HIV/AIDS, Gaffney was found to be getting emotionally attached to them. At the end of his first day, he was confused with having a mixture of views about the first day experience. He was confused with his thoughts of having a vague connection or deep gap. On the other meeting he was found to be having serious, deep and personal attachment with the people. Due to his subjective observation he was in a big dilemma with a need of increasing his awareness. He has been more of a caring advocate rather than an objective observer. This was also felt while reading the reflection of Gaffney, where he expressed his strong feelings about being concerned about the people having HIV/ AIDS as to how hard it would be for them to face the world and deal with different situations.
