Case Background

The case discussed is a vital case in which a business management student named Safia from the University of Middlesex has recently graduated and acquired a job in a Law firm. In just a few days at her job, she has shown remarkable performance and has established herself as a valuable employee of the firm. Now her career takes a turn when a partner named Mr. Jamal in the firm for which Safia works has directed her to organize an event which the firm organizes every year to recognize its corporate clients. She has been directed to plan and organize a party which will host approximately 200 guests. Furthermore she is now supposed to follow her firm's guidelines, which is to get quotes from four different caterers and select the one which offers the best price and value for money. As Safia is wholly responsible to carry out this task, she selects one of her friend Meera among the list of four caterers from which one who offers the best value for money will be selected.

Meera who have recently taken over from her father due to his deteriorating health is new to the catering business but the reason Safia has considered adding her friend to the list is that the large contract will be a boost for her friend's business. Now, the quotes received from all the four caterers are not identical in rates and Meera's quote is not a value for money. Safia once again asks her friend to revise her quote so that she could give to catering order to her firm to favour her.

Case Analysis

In this particular case, Safia has breached the business ethics by favouring her friend. Giving favours in business is ethically and morally incorrect and can hurt any business. There are numerous business theories and research that describes the ways to conduct a business in successful way while maintaining the moral and ethical values as well.
