Case Study

Background

The given case is an important case in which a lady named Safia who has completed her studies in management from Middlesex University, has got a job at a medium size firm. She has recently joined this job, but she has become a valuable employee of the company by her good and strong efforts. The issue is that she has asked by her partner Mr. Jamal to organise an event for the company. The event is an annual event. Her brief includes organizing the catering as they are expected that about 200 guest will join them on the event. She has to follow the guidelines provided by the company that states that she has to get quotes from the 4 catering firms and then give the contract to the firm that offers the best rates.

Ms. Safia's one close friend has also taken over her father's catering business due to the illness of her father. Safia knows that large contracts are much needed to boost her friend's business. That is why she has added her friend's company name in the list.

Finally, the quotes received from the firms are not identical in rates that are why she asked her friend to revise the prices in order to favour her.

Analysis of the Case

In the given case, Safia has favoured her friend by saying her to revise her firms quotes, which is quite wrong and against the ethics of business. Such kinds of favours are not considered good ethically. There are a lot of theories that explain how to conduct a business, and what are the ethics of duty.

Ethics of Duty

Ethics suggests us to do the correct thing, to gratitude the ethical law and to do our job. A normal being who dependably has the right intention has what Kant names a Good Will. Nothing is more essential for ethics than having a great will. Consistent with Kant, a sensible being with a Good Will naturally performs its duty. Why? Peruse on (Garrett, 2006).

In the first place think about what might inspire you depending on if you had a Good Will. You would do your job basically on account of it's your responsibility. You would not want a prize. You would not need to make yourself euphoric or give yourself delight. You would need to do your job essentially on account of it's your job or responsibilities. In different expressions, all results any delight or bliss that may come about (or any ache and hopelessness that may be kept away from) are incidental. Obligation is what makes you great; it's not what makes you (or anybody else) euphoric. It's not what fulfils expected slants to achieve delight or satisfaction. So part of having a Good Will is settling on your ethical choices without recognizing if they might make joy or delight, or keep away from pain.
