Selection of Individual

The individual who is selected for this study belongs to a different ethnic background. The selected individual is a 32 years old male who lives with his family and is suffering from high level of depression. This man belongs to African American community. The individual is selected because the healthcare practitioner has suggested him to attend counseling.

Discussion about Individual's Physical, Psychological and Sociological Needs

A patient presents various challenges. There is possibility that the problem with which patient is suffering may only be related to physical fitness or may be suffering from mental illness but there are various underlying factors wit which a patient goes through. It is the responsibility of a healthcare professional to identify all the needs in all the grounds of the patients so that can patient should be treated well. This helps in producing maximum outcomes for the patient. The patient who is selected for this case study also presents a number of challenges for the healthcare practitioners. Scores of needs related to the field of physical, psychological and sociological needs of the selected individual is discussed as follows:

Physical Needs

When we talk about the physical needs of the patient then there are two types of physical needs that are taken into consideration. The first physical need is related to the personal physical and fitness related needs and second the physical needs involve surroundings and environment. As it is mentioned earlier that the patient who is selected for this case study is suffering from depression so the first and the most important thing that is to be taken into consideration is that physical problems often hide the mental problems. As such patients suffer from mental problems but their problem appears to be more of a physical problem. They suffer from physical pains and muscle aches. This shows that the first needs that can be highlighted for a patient suffering from depression is to address the issue of muscles pain and other physical aches. Patient suffering from depression shows physical symptoms like headaches, dizziness, aching muscles and sweating. While assessing the patient for the identification of the physical needs all these points should be noted (Payne, 2000, 101).

Another type of physical needs that such patients show is related to the surrounded environment. Such patients who are suffering from some sort of mental problem like depression needs to be in calm and peaceful place. Recreational centers, gardens, parks, area with greenery can be good source for such patients to acquire positive energy and hence dealing with the depression (Payne, 2000, 101).

Psychological Needs
