Discussion
Leadership is one of the most important roles associated with the position of members within the group structure (Burns, 1996). The analysis revolves around the fact that John faces an issue relating to the unacceptability of his leadership from his own group members (Bundey, Cullen, Denshire, Grant, Norfor, & Nove, 2002). Although not everyone is capable of adjusting in a group, or developing good coordination and communication within the group, but it is the sole responsibility of the group leader to ensure that the understanding amongst his group members remains good (Association for Specialists in Group Work, 2000). In this case John is liable not only to ensure the proper acceptance of all group members to each other but also to be able to direct the entire group towards a common goal. Teamwork is an essential part of organizational performance (Baird, 1999), which ensures the execution of complicated tasks by way of task divisibility amongst the group members (Burns, 2002). Apart from that, it also allows the group leader to judge the level of development of individual group members within the group (Brookfield, 1987).
Groups Problem
Conflicts or problems are situations where two or more people come into opposition or disagreement because of the incompatibility of their interests, needs, desires or values (Carers , 2002). The basic problem with the group in this case study is that of unacceptability of the group leader. The group members are not ready to accept the fact that the group leader is firing a lot of lectures and tasks for the group members. In most cases, the group issues are limited to the unacceptability of a group member or the existence of rift between the group members alone; however, in this case the issue lies in the unacceptability of the group leader only. The group members amongst themselves have no issues are seem to get along perfectly well (Bales, 1950). The problem is the excessive lectures, given by John, which the group members are fed up of attending.
Probable Causes of the Dysfunction
It is necessary to verify the functioning of a group to make decisions that impact on their dynamics and their own performance (Gillette, & McCollom, 1990). One of the most important techniques of evaluation is the systematic observation (Benson, 2001), which requires a realization of what the leader wants to observe. In this case, the probable causes for the prevailing dysfunction are the lack of integrity between the group members and the group leader. John needs to better understand the mental states of his ...
