Background

This case is associated with the discussion of eliminating filters from the piping of plant and hence, permits current production to run milk-shake mix to turn out to be contaminated. But what is distributing George is children drinking contaminated milkshakes. The main thing in this case is the time which has turn out to be a major cause. George who had been employed in Eastern Dairy to work during summers has been going through ethical dilemma as he has make decision concerning elimination of filters which will save cost for the company as well as his time. Paul, a self appointed leader in shift and he used to take final decision for Eastern Dairy during nights. Easter Dairy used to formulate targets for each employee without any leader or responsible person that watch out entire manufacture process at night. There were six employees working at night and each employee used to look for Paul direction (Cousins, Benitz, 1998).

Paul was working as an employee as well as supervision to the other employees. Shift people were least concern for Eastern Dairy reputation and the reason for this was time and targets that put pressure on these employees during nights. George unexpected inspections during evening operation he discover that milkshake mix pipe line are leaking and blocked because of maggots. Paul has highlighted the requirement for meeting management expectation that the production should be on time and to complete the product order. But the time connected to clean and reassembling the filters was not favouring company condition and management requirements. Considering this fact, Paul decided to use last 500 gallons of milkshake mix that should be run via the pipes without the filters. As he was new to this company, he was unaware to handle such situation. George decides to report directly to Paul (self appointed leader) and working at night. Since they have not worked even without any direct management supervision, they were unaware and least responsible for quality control for the product (Cousins, Benitz, 1998).

There the main things that employee including Paul and George is to act in an ethical and responsible way. For better quality compliance there should a specific standard for food safety, and milk that is for direct consumption must be pasteurized. Hence, this state that the company is having problems in their manufacturing process. In order to look for solution, it is better to contact directors of Eastern Dairy for better outcome or to the people that are responsible to market the product to end consumer (Cousins, Benitz, 1998).
