Al-Qaida is a large terrorist organization that operates globally. Founded around 1988, its origins can be traced back to the Soviet War in Afghanistan. Its main objectives calls for the global implementation of strict shariah law which they claim will have to be done by fighting a global jihad. Despite calling themselves a religious group, their terrorist activities have led to them being labeled as terrorist groups. Over the years, the group has developed into one of most well-known terrorist groups in the world (Alexander & Swetnam, 2001).
