American and Japanese Values (Collective and Individual)
After watching the video clip; we can easily assess the differences between both sides. The Japanese players acted and carried themselves like a “team”. They were organized and had a clear understanding of their contribution to the team. They had a strong “collective” approach i.e. their individual performance was related to the team's requirement and success.
The American players had an opposite approach as compared to the Japanese. Each player was focused on his own game; and they also had no “game plan”. Here, we can clearly establish the difference in cultures i.e. the Japanese team hailing from a collective background worked as a group. On the other hand, the Americans due to their individualistic background and culture could not manage to work as a team. The video clip reveals the lack of coordination among players and also the lack of a game plan.
Performance of Players
An analysis of the Japanese team reveals; that each player was focused on winning. They knew what they were required to do. Throughout the video clip, they worked as a group and supplemented each other's performance.
