Introduction

Human Resource Management is an important function that assists an organization in attaining its mission by obtaining and maintaining effective relationship with employee. HR of an organization has certain important responsibilities. Some of the important responsibilities include training of the workforce to maintain organizational competitiveness (Deb, 2006, 412). Hiring right employees at right place. Other than that there are some important responsibilities of HR that if are not fulfilled can cause huge problems for the organizations. These responsibilities are developing and communicating industrial relations policies and procedures to conform legislation, involvement in disciplinary and grievance hearing, and development of compensations policies and strategies in compliance to market forces, legislation, and business strategy of the organization.

The human resources department within the company impacts the effectiveness of people management policies and their influence is evident in the implementation of the personnel system. The human resources department can be positioned in two ways: either as a department constituted technical / operational, or strategic one. HR is considered as a legal liaison between employees and organizations (Heathfield, 2012, 1). In this paper I am going to analyze a case that was published in media (online on internet). This case will be from two main angles of HR that is HR strategy of the organization and compensation policy. In addition the case will be analyzed by using theories and in the end recommendation will be given to avoid the any further problems to be faced in future.

Case Brief

Five years back, a legal case was filed by a government servant who was injured during an official trip. The case took time period of five years due to the reason that the case was very unusual. The reason behind the unusual case was that servant was injured while having sex during a work trip. Women worked in federal government agency were she was sent to a trip in 2007 (Trinny, 2012, 1). The employer booked motel for her. In the motel she had to meet a client after which they went into her room to have sex. During the sex a glass fitting fell on her in which her nose and mouth was affected. After the incident she suffered from depression and anxiety and was unable to work. In the early days of the case women was not able to continue the case as her true identity will be made public for which federal government suppressed her name. In the case, court has dismissed the appeal from the workplace health insurers who claim that women's work in motel room does not relate to office work. On the other hand, governments dismissed their appeal due to the reason that it was a work trip. So in that case if a woman is injured while playing cards or having sex it does not matter as the women was at work.
