Introduction

Aqua Pure is a UK based company that produces and distributes bottled, mineral water, mainly in the United Kingdom. The company is facing innumerable problems in the operational, administrative and financial side of the business that is taking the company to many losses and issues. The damage caused by these issues could go beyond repair, in case these issues are not resolved within time. The company provides employment to over 40,000 office, factory and management staff; indicating the large size and structure of the business. It is important to note that the catering services to the employees, at the location, are managed in-house. The catering team provide breakfast, lunch and vending services for the headquarters workforce 7 days a week. A director's dining room and special functions are also catered for as and when required. There is 40 full and part time staff, including a General Manager and Head Chef.

Since the recent past, the quality of food served to the organizational employees and the services of the catering department are deteriorating. While the department reports serious financial losses, the quality and service deterioration poses serious threat to the overall efficiency of the organization. This loss translates into other problems for the entire organization, as employees are seen as assets, whose satisfaction is an important element for organizational success. Mr. Cox, the Facilities Manager (FM) and Mrs. Rodger, Operations Director for Aqua Pure, have the overall responsibility for the catering services of the company. They need to analyze the factors that are posing threats to the department and resulting in major loopholes for its performance. The Managing Director of the company requires these two personnel to come up with an improvement plan, in order to rectify this issue. Mr. Cox and Mrs. Rodger both recognise that improvement needs to be made and are under pressure to come up with an improvements strategy.

My role in this project is of a consultant who has 12 weeks to develop an intervention strategy for the improvement of organizational services, particularly in the catering department. My experience as a senior consultant for a successful consultancy organisation that specialise in catering services, is the reason why these personnel wish to avail my services in resolving this case. The resolution of the case will require careful assessment of each and every problem that occurs within the department including the evaluation of the focus group interview with the employees. My experience and expertise will aid me in evaluating the prevalent trends and suggesting some long-lasting solutions to the FM. The FM of Aqua Pure company wants me to recommend definite set of solutions to deal with the issue, focussing on the quality and efficiency of the operation.
