Casablanca is an American traditional black and white film set in the background of World War II. It is the most romantic movie of all the time from the “Golden age of cinema”. “Casablanca is like a harmonious concert: easy to see and hear over and over”(Common, et.al.,1996,pp.86). It is the most perfect combination of story, cast, dialogue and direction. It contains all the elements of a grand movie; a thrilling wartime adventure, suspense, action, and romance. The film is directed by Michael Curtiz, an Oscar award winner starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, and Claude Rains.

The story spins around an exiled American, Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) who runs café during World War II in Casablanca. It was the time when Nazis have overrun France and all the freedom fighters were trying to escape from Casablanca. The excitement begins when some Nazi officials want his cooperation in capturing the freedom fighter Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid) who escaped from their prison and that fighter appeared in the café with a woman named Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) Blaine has loved and she broke his heart and left him years ago.

It is the story of an internal conflict in which a man has to choose between his duty and love. It is his duty to help the leader to escape but in doing so he will lose his lover once again whom he has loved for many years and she left him without any reason. Another heartbreaking part of the movie is that Ilsa needs Blain's help for their escape and her husband didn't know about her love for another man. What shall Blain do? Will he help her to escape? Will he forgive her for the past? What was the reason ...
