Abstract

The industry of cruise line has been all the way through a metamorphosis. As of being a waning style of travel in time period of 1960s, the industry of cruise line twisted the corner in 1970s and developed into fastest growing sectors of the broader industry of tourism throughout the 1980s. This paper analyzes the present structure of cruise industry of the United States and the perceived management issues facing the Carnival Cruise Line industry. This paper also includes the analysis of management style of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and social responsibility to promote a deep commitment to maintain the original state of the marine environment. This paper also investigates the significance of diversification of the organization as well as offering attractive packages or services to the people in order to expand the business of tourism.

Introduction

Carnival Cruise Line has grown from a family business in 1972 and a single vessel, to the giant cruise company. The company transports more than 25% of all passengers in the world, with an average occupancy exceeding 100% (based on double occupancy). Carnival Cruise Corporation holding company as Holland America, Windstar, Costa, Cunard, Seabourn, Princess, Swan Hellenic, P & O, Aida and Arosa, controlling more than 65 ships in 2003. The first Carnival ship became operational in 1973, and the following year adopted the slogan and theme of "Fun Ship" or fun boat that was associated from the beginning with their white helmets and red chimneys, white and blue with design boomerang found in almost all warm U.S. ports (Gibson, 2009).

Carnival ships have itineraries in the Caribbean coast of Mexico, Panama Canal, Bahamas and Hawaii. Also in summer, make Alaska, Canada, and New England. Carnival has the highest rate of young travelers, families, baby boomers, and seniors who enjoy the atmosphere of energy Carnival ships. Carnival has identified more with mainly American passengers, with low expectations for service and food, looking for the party atmosphere, which is its great value to other price.

Carnival Cruise Line is the world's largest cruise line. The organization caters the largest number of passengers that enable it to raise huge amount of revenues. It is deemed to have abundant capacity to carry out cargo and passenger services. In the beginning, it used to possess two converted ocean liners and now it is progressing rapidly having two cruise sections and another in progress. In addition to cruise business, the organization owns a chain of Alaskan hotels that are accompanied with tour coaches. The organization is continuously putting in efforts to get the business expanded using all possible and legal ways (www.cruising.org).
